Uno de los grandes momentos del año para los friquis de los festivales de música sin duda es la presentación del cartel de Coachella, el festival californiano que abre la temporada de grandes eventos musicales del año.
El cartel de Coachella siempre es interesante de estudiar porque, aunque no vayamos a ir nunca (aparte del pastón que cuesta, eso de no poder beber cerveza mientras vemos conciertos no nos atrae para nada) nos aporta cierta información de lo que se moverá por Europa unos meses después. Coachella siempre hace grandes carteles, de hecho al jugar en casa siempre lleva a los grupos americanos más apetecibles. Este año además el festival se dobla debido a la gran demanda de abonos que existía, y se celebra clónicamente durante dos fines de semana seguidos.
Curioso de ver qué lugares ocupan en el cartel grupos americanos que aquí no tienen tanta relevancia, y grupos europeos, especialmente británicos, que aquí ocupan grandes letras y allí apenas se les ve.

De esta manera tenemos a un cabeza de cartel que sorprendería ver aquí tan alto, the Black Keys que este año han pegado el pelotazo definitivamente (ya casi a nivel mundial) y que viendo el tamaño y el lugar que ocupan por allí sospechamos va a ser dificil verlos por estas tierras. Radiohead encabeza el sábado y Dr. Dre junto a Snoop Dog (algo muy muy Coachella) encabezarán en domingo.
Las noticias más relevantes, viendo el cartel, son por ejemplo constatar que At the Drive-in y Refused vuelven, que grupos como Pulp, Cat Power, Santigold, The Shins, James y La Roux giran de nuevo, flipar con el status que han conseguido bandas electrónicas y dj’s “de masas” no muy bien consideradas por aquí como Avicii, Kaskade o Swedish House Mafia (estos huelen a FIB bastante); constatar la apertura de miras hacia otras músicas como la africana o la jamaicana (con el proyecto de Jimmy Cliff con Tim Amstrong) y básicamente ver en un mismo cartel casi la totalidad de nombres del año para publicaciones yankis y no yankis y esa serie de nombres que cuesta tanto de ver por aquí puestos en línea para dar más rabia.

Pues eso, primer cartel de gran festival desvelado. A hacer cábalas y esperar qué veremos por aquí, en un año sin Glastonbury ni Oxegen.
